Eclipse Now Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Phew, glad to leave discussing peak oil for a while and get into something REALLY important! I was really torn when voting... I watched the original series when I was a kid, and boy it terrified me then. My dad loves the Apollo episode with the big hand in space... "I took the wind out of your sails..." But I'm (a bit embarrassed to admit) I also liked some of the "soapy" character development in TNG and the fact that there was some continuity to the storylines. There was longer term character development, interaction, disappointment, surprises, etc. Also the plot narratives built on each other.EG: In the first season Q shoves them across the galaxy to meet the Borg, and they barely escape... but are aware that they have alerted the Borg to the general direction of human space, and at their current velocity the Borg will be there within 2 years. 2 years (or seasons) later, I'm starting to wonder when the Borg are going to turn up, and it is one of the best end-of-season double episodes ever! Sadly, although I enjoyed some of the sad angst of the Voyager series, I thought by the end of that the Borg were just "so so" and largely domesticated, like naughty puppies. It took away from the true horror of the Borg, which up until then I thought were some of the most mysterious and best Sci-Fi villains ever. Now, favourite quotes: Worf (From TNG, when Q dresses them all up in Robin Hood gear).):"Sir, I protest, I am not a Merry Man!" My favourite quote from Galaxy Quest taking off Kirk always ending up in gladiator fights or losing his shirt... "I see you got your shirt torn off again!" Oh, and let's not forget "Crewman guy" shouting suggestions to Tim Allen fighting the rock monster....Guy Fleegman: "I know! You'll need to make a weapon. Look around; can you construct some sort of rudimentary lathe?" (Referring to when Kirk had to fight the reptilian monster and eventually made a primitive blunderbuster). Quote
Buffy Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 "I see you got your shirt torn off again!" Yah, but Bill Shatner's abs were way cuter than Tim Allen's! :cheer: Self control? That's funny coming from the guy that slept with every Terrakian slave and the Moon Princess on the show, :beer:Buffy Quote
paigetheoracle Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 I thought Patrick Stewart was wooden - he should have played Data (Make it so!). Avery Brookes wasn't bad and Voyager was passable but I never followed Enterprise: Loved some of the films up to six but not five. Also liked Space 1999, first series, Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. Quote
Eclipse Now Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Isn't 5 the "Search for God" that Shatner directed / wrote, just so that he could say "Wait a minute" to God? :phones: Naaaah, no ego problem there! :hihi: Quote
modest Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Oh and before anyone has the chance to complain about it, it was left out on purpose. Anyone who notices it's missing AND wants to vote for it can embarrass themselves by declaring it's their favorite publicly by posting so below. Talking, of course, about: YouTube - Death Star Destroys Enterprise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpztVZWC_hk The shortest series. :Guns: :D ~modest ;) Quote
