paigetheoracle Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Could ice rings in bodies of water, be made the same way as corn circles*, lenticular clouds and ice meringues on rivers? (foam, caught in an eddy, spun into saucer size/ shape, then frozen solid). What I propose is that ice forming in the centre is spun or that water is kept clear by spinning air above the ice or maybe even rotting vegetation, causing gas build up or even simply a spring beneath the surface. Dr Terence Meaden in The UK, proposed that the original, simple crop circles were caused by vortices, like tornadoes but ones that didn't move but spun on the spot (More sophisticated designs it has been suggested are complex fakes but that has yet to be proved conclusively).
