paigetheoracle Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I have been informed by at least three different sources here and one elsewhere, that my jokes puzzle more than make people laugh. Please complete the poll below to help me see if this a majority reaction, so that I can assess whether this is something I need to seriously address or not. Quote
Pyrotex Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Wow! This poll, Paige, is like... really funny. :) :DBut maybe that's just me.ROTFL Quote

Pyrotex Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 No. Actually, I was serious. I saw the name of the thread. I figured the Mods were up to something. I clicked, and then discovered that YOU had started it. That was when I laughed. Such an audacious thing to do. Very gutsy, very unexpected, very funny. I know you put the poll up as a serious question, but still, it was funny. THAT was a good joke! Quote
freeztar Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I wouldn't worry about it, Paige. People have different senses of humor and sometimes the jokes we tell get a little more than rolled eyes. I think you received so much attention to that particular joke because of its lewd nature. Keep it clean and remember that this forum is intended to suit a wide audience, including kids. BTW, I voted for one of each. :) paigetheoracle 1 Quote
Buffy Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Well, how's about we open a thread called "Crude and Offensive Jokes and Humor?" :D Few things in life are more embarrassing than the necessity of having to inform an old friend that you have just got engaged to his fiancee, :)Buffy Quote

I know you put the poll up as a serious question, but still, it was funny. THAT was a good joke! That's me! I find house spiders (those grey, chevroned monsters that climb about the home) have exactly the same effect on me: I stamp my foot on the ground and any 'sensible' creature (in my opinion) would run the opposite way but they come towards you, which used to freak me out until I discovered they react to vibration (that's how they know they've got a fly in their net after all). Confuse the enemy! Nothing works better than the unexpected. Who is the enemy? You, if you don't laugh! (See the ridiculous nature of life:confused:): See Spike Milligan quote in poll. Quote
lemit Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I personally like your jokes, but then I'm a Junior Moderator over sixty years old, so I don't really count. I hadn't seen and had to look up the term ROTFL. Shouldn't it be SOYAL? I would imagine that most correspondents who use the term remain, like Homer Simpson, firmly entrenched in the grooves on their couches. Also, although I know we live in a fast-paced world, I kind of like to take the time, while I'm typing anyway, to go ahead and write words in full. Am I the only one who has such a leisurely pace? (I am retired, so I will accept positive responses.) Quote

(I am retired, so I will accept positive responses.) Being 58, possibly that's why you find it as funny as I do to write (I've found culture, which changes with age, to be a big factor - seeing some modern comics, I think what the hell was that about? What makes that funny? Quote
paigetheoracle Posted February 17, 2010 Author Report Posted February 17, 2010 I commissioned this poll because humour, like artistic taste is subjective. What one man finds funny another may be insulted by and yet another is left blank by it (accept/ reject/ unaffected). I wanted to see where my stuff stood in this. Humour isn't what it is labelled by society but what the individual finds by reacting/ not reacting to it. It's a question of understanding and seeing the bizarreness of life and the logic of our thoughts or failing to (taking things seriously versus taking them lightly or not understanding them at all - paranoia/ mystification/ lunacy) Quote

Like Tormod and one or two others on staff, your comments come across as nicely neutral and you're right about 'that' particular joke but I just couldn't resist the flawed logic that this report brought out in me. Sorry! Quote
