djmacarro Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Im just wondering what all of you think as to the future of human evolution as in: -When a we will become a new species? -What would our apperence be? -What new traits may we develop? -How we will interact with; each other/the planet/animal/rest of the universe Quote
Queso Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 great questions. When a we will become a new species?we pretty much are...conciousness at least. What would our apperence be?i don't know if this can even be predicted. we are at the top of the food chain, do we need to change our appearance? What new traits may we develop?depends on where we are in the universe.for example, on earth i can not tell you what could develop...but maybe over millions of years of living in zero gravity, humans would evolve to keep their muscle mass intact over longer periods of time. just an idea. How we will interact with; each other/the planet/animal/rest of the universei think we will deplete and destroy this planet. if not us, something we created..eventually, maybe not soon. so the planet-a wasteland. we will probably always interact the same. we are a social species, i don't know how else we would "interact"as for the universe.......who knows!? However, I don't think you'll see any speciation events anytime in the near future. There's simply far too much gene flow between our populations. Unless these endogamic native tribes continue to stay isolated or Homo sapiens is somehow smacked back to the Acheulian. Quote
UncleAl Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 First World social structure will collapse around 2015 when 100 million Baby Boomers in the US alone are retired. Europe has no hope at all. The First World itself will be utterly dead by 2050 when petroleum is no longer retrievable at scale at any price. Cities will die and burn. The Third world, cut off from charity, will die. Figure a population contraction to about 3 billion people living in perpetual squalor. Either we find a way off Earth into other star systems or we smother in our own wastes and stupidities. No civilization within a 50 lightyear radius of Earth is emitting EMF radiation. Doom is the fat wager. Quote
FetusHead Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 All I have to say is I want a proboscus..Either that or some tentacles. Tentacles are cool. Quote
Queso Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 uncleal, i am looking forward to this catastrophe that you predict for some reason.although, when and if such events happen, i'm sure i won't be saying this.oh hey i've got one of those proboscus's too. too bad it doesn't have a suction cup or anything. Quote
Fishteacher73 Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 I was speaking about the tentacle. Roughly 50% of us have one.... Quote
Queso Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 i know. i wonder if someone out there has two, or six? ;) Quote
Fishteacher73 Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Would that put Ron Jeremy out of a job? Quote
Queso Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 most likely ;) poor guy...it would also make us normal unitents considered worse than premature ejaculators! (in the female mind) this is becomming a strange thread. ;) Quote
Fishteacher73 Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 There is a real genetic disorder called polydactylism that cause extra digits on the hands and toes... Could we evolve to a polyphalic species? Many lizards and snakes essentailly do. Many have two hemi-peni that are used in reproduction. so it seems at least biologically feasable. Quote
bumab Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Not to hard to imagine, really. Some guy gets an extra penis. In a world where sexuality is more and more open, everybody hears about this, and women flock to him. On average, he's going to have more kids. Freakish disorder becomes common, isn't that evolution? ;) Not to mention he could work twice as fast ;) Quote
Fishteacher73 Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 For it to be proffitable though would require double conception on two different females. Quote
bumab Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 True, for 2X the conception. But wouldn't simply more volume also increase the chances of conception, at a lower rate then x2, but still >1. Quote
Fishteacher73 Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 True, it would be advantageous, but it could just be comprable to a quicker recovery rate, which would probably have a lower energy cost than a polyphalic situation. Quote
