Moontanman Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Do Recreational Drugs Make Us Fail to Remember? ScienceDaily (Feb. 23, 2010) — Have you ever forgotten to post an important letter or let an appointment slip your mind? A new study from UK researchers suggests that for those who regularly use ecstasy or other recreational drugs, this kind of memory lapse is more common. Their research, which uncovered potential links between memory deficits and cocaine for the first time, appears in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, published by SAGE. Do recreational drugs make us fail to remember? Quote
Pyrotex Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Unhhhhh... dude... I mean... like... make us fail to remember... what? You are sooooo deep. Quote
JMJones0424 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I think the two most important passages of this "science article" are as follows-The researchers recruited 42 ecstasy/polydrug users (14 males, 28 females) and 31 non-users (5 males, 26 females) for the study Researchers have another difficult conundrum when investigating drugs' effects on memory: which came first -- the memory defects or the drug use? It is hard to rule out the possibility of pre-existing differences between users and non-users that originated before users tried drugs. Sociodemographic factors, personal dispositions, or underlying psychopathology could all play a role. What can you reliably conclude from this study, except that those who carried it out were not interested in devising a rigorous test of their hypothesis? Quote
Moontanman Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 I have found that many studies of recreational drugs are more interested in proving their agenda (usually that drugs are terrible) than they are in actually studying the effects of drugs. Often they will tout findings that are not even near the effects of common chemicals we come into contact with every day or at least they never give a context of the effects of the drugs compared to common things we come into contact with so there is no way top really judge how bad the effects really are. I like to compare the effects of things to other common things, like the effects of smoking cigarettes compared to smoking cannabis or some other thing we know the effects of. Simply stating the effects with no context is not a good way to really judge what is happening. Lets ban dihydrogen monoxide, it responsible for 100% of drownings and it's every where in the environment :) :) Quote
Pyrotex Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Yeah, man. Let's ban dihydrogen monoxide. I got a really bad batch of that stuff once. I tried to smoke it, but it wouldn't even light! That's how bad it was. And you shudda seen what it did to my ZigZags! Turned em to mush! My ol lady tried snortin that **** and wound up in the mergency room. I'm with you, dude! Ban that ****! Who needs it anyway... Quote
A23 Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Cannabis can make memory problems, or hearing noise/voices so much that one should better put sh.t in their ears....i dont know about alcool. I even read a book about somebody taking heroin that was then eating itself. Quote
Moontanman Posted March 6, 2010 Author Report Posted March 6, 2010 Cannabis can make memory problems, or hearing noise/voices so much that one should better put sh.t in their ears....i dont know about alcool. I even read a book about somebody taking heroin that was then eating itself. I read in a book about these dead humans that walk around eating live humans brains! OMFG Can you bask up any of your assertions? I have certainly never heard of such effects of cannabis or heroine. Were they unusual effects or do they happen every time? Who reported it, where did you read it? Quote
A23 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Well alcool makes memory loss. (Korsakoff) and heart problems. I don't know where it comes from, seldom articles, on effect, and other science fiction books, if it's really true. It seems that with cannabis people become to have interest to bad smelling things in themselves. Like a mother taking care of a baby, but I don't if this is a game, they put everywhere, even in the ears, in the eyes, and cross and mix...aso Hard drugs, the horror I read that PCP user who broke a mirror was so anesthesied that he cut it's face with pieces and gave them to a dog to eat ? Internal drugs, like hormons, I don't think they have such effects. Quote
Moontanman Posted March 7, 2010 Author Report Posted March 7, 2010 Again A23, you must provide some back up to your assertions inks to books or web pages, all you are doing is telling urban legends. Quote
Moontanman Posted March 7, 2010 Author Report Posted March 7, 2010 (Maybe we can use the "memory" of water) memory of water is totally bogus A23. Quote
A23 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 I don't have the references I read on paper years ago, but it's findable on the net about bloody acts possibility : (I have memory problems) snopes.com: Self-Mutilation While on Drugs The other one about dirt I don't think it's findable like this, anyhow you can look about amaroli about yellow stuff : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaroli. The dirt can be used as a odoriferic armor when huge old reptiles are around...but this I saw on TV, it's surely a joke. The story about an heroinoman that fell from a plane in the sea and started to eat himself I read in a SF book of P.K.Dick, but I don't remember the name. Quote

Not to mention it has nothing to do with the OP The other one about dirt I don't think it's findable like this, anyhow you can look about amaroli about yellow stuff : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaroli. Urine as medicien is not realated to recreational drug use in any way. The dirt can be used as a odoriferic armor when huge old reptiles are around...but this I saw on TV, it's surely a joke. I have no idea what you mean by this The story about an heroinoman that fell from a plane in the sea and started to eat himself I read in a SF book of P.K.Dick, but I don't remember the name. You quote Science Fiction to support an assertion as the truth? many science fiction stories claim everything from faster than light travel to aliens taking over humans and using them as hosts and vessels for their young. None of these things are any closer to the truth than your heroine man. Quote
skittlesmonkey Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 bars will make it so don't remember anything Quote
