Moontanman Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Porn: Good for us? Scientific examination of the subject has found that as the use of porn increases, the rate of sex crimes goes down. Pornography. Most people have seen it, and have a strong opinion about it. Many of those opinions are negative—some people argue that ready access to pornography disrupts social order, encouraging people to commit rape, sexual assault, and other sex-related crimes. Pyrotex Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Hmmm. I'll read the links later, but my own opinion is that porn can be a double-edged sword. For a well-adjusted adult with no serious mental problems, porn might be just the "poor man's viagra" necessary to spice up his or her marriage. For someone who has a strong addiction to sex, especially the less common fetishes and so-called "perversions", I can see that it might push them over the edge, motivate them to do something regretful. I am reminded of an elderly man in poor health, who was taken in by his son and daughter-in-law. He began trying to act out all his favorite porn scenarios, which didn't go over very big with his family. That's just one anecdote, but the son was convinced the old man would never have behaved so badly if he had not been a lifelong porn addict. Who's to say? :singer: Quote
Moontanman Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 Porn always calls up old wifes tales, urban legends, rumors, assumptions, and "common wisdom" nearly all of which are rooted in the religious disdain for sex and the need to feel guilt for breaking the rules religion has set down. Actually quite a bit of porn seems to revolve around a need for guilt, humiliation, and punishment for having sexual feelings other than the "good old man on top get it over quick with type sex" Anecdotal evidence is not exactly the gold standard. The links provided should be read before any discussion much less conclusions are made. Where the hell are my glasses! My eyes just seem to get worse and worse and what the hell is with this hair growing on my palms! :singer: Quote
Buffy Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Well, most porn seems to be incredibly misogynist--which has always been my main complaint--but the weird negative aspect that I've been a party to is guys saying "we don't have enough time" to which my reaction has been to uncontrollably laugh out loud because of the rarity of guys who seem to be able to last anywhere near as long as your average porn scene.... :( :eek_big: I forget where I saw it but there was something I saw recently about it putting totally unrealistic expectations on guys, making them feel inadequate and leading to psychologically reinforced impotence. Is that a reason to ban it? No, but honestly, "pretend" to choke me, slap me or pull my hair and you'll have coitus interruptus so fast it'll make your head spin.....that kind of porn really is bad! Seems like they need more women directing these things... But anything to get rid of this unbelievably Puritan attitude toward sex in America is probably a good thing.... (Kenneth) Star...(has) done what I could not do in a quarter century: make pornography more widely available, :shrug:Buffy Quote

(Kenneth) Star...(has) done what I could not do in a quarter century: make pornography more widely available, :evil:Buffy There are women, and men as well, who think that sex with out some slapping, hair pulling, and choking is not worth the effort. They call us "vanilla" and say we don't know what we are missing, so saying that porn is misogynist ignores what others see as sexy, maybe misogynist is in the eye of the receiver  I am willing to let it go as long as no one is forced to do anything they do not want to do. Temporary role play can be fun, stepping outside your normal routine can be exciting and pretend is not something that only kids can do! My own tastes in sexually orientated material run more toward art like the works of Boris Vallejo, fantasy art is great, or more simple, naturalistic nudity. Erotic writing is also great but to me reading is better than a movie any day on any subject. :( I've tried my hand at erotic writing with some success, at least the target audience seemed to like it. But to each his own as long as it's consenting adults. i do take offense to the idea that nudity is automatically pornography, having been a life long nudist seeing simple nudity of anyone as pornography is simply not part of my mind set. From what I've seen most women go for what is known as soft porn and romance novels are really just literary soft porn, men on the other hand are more likely to want to get to the point quickly, women are more likely to want to get there slowly, in real life and in porn as well. But like most things absolutes are often absolutely wrong :( Quote
Boerseun Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 The best porn title I've ever seen was Chitty Chitty Gang Bang.:eek_big: Quote
