"A Briefer History of Time"

i am interested in how the universe got to be as it is. I am a total novice. I was thinking of reading, "A briefer history of Time" by Stephen Hawkins. Would that be a good place to start?

That would be a great place to start - I have not read it myself (I read "A brief history of time") but I believe it will be a very nice introduction indeed. Feel free to post any questions you have from the book here.
