What are some unusual alternative theories in science?

For example, I once heard about a theory, a book had been written about, stating that the solar system is part of a binary star system and our entire solar system, as we see it, is revolving around a second star. It links the orbit of the solar system around this second star to variations in human intelligence. (I'm not asking for opinions on the validity of this theory.)

 

I am interested in other theories out there that have armchair scientists scratching their head, or laughing, as the case maybe.
