Moontanman Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Invasive Asian carp on verge of entering Great Lakes Well that didn't take long: Just six months after the U.S. Supreme Court turned down requests to close the locks between Chicago area waterways and Lake Michigan to stop the spread of invasive Asian carp the giant, voracious fish has almost made its way to the Great Lakes. maikeru Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 I used to go fishing for carp at Utah Lake as a kid. They weren't anything like koi. I wish you could see how much environmental damage they've done to Utah Lake...and how much they can do to the Great Lakes. They'll be renamed the Dead Lakes. Quote
Moontanman Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 The Asian carp are nothing like the European carp you caught, the European Carp is already in the great lakes but the Asian Carp is something completely different and will not be a good thing for sure. Then again you have the fact that moving animal species around is what humans do. We have introduced both domestic and wild animals outside their native ranges all over the planet. Quite possibly it is already too late reverse this trend and we should just continue on business as usual and move species were ever we want and introduce the predators that would control this Asian carp. The main predator on the European carp is the wels catfish, capable of eating adult carp the wels has be implicated in eating humans. Can we control what we have already done by doing it even more?
