Tormod Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 We had a user level contest a while back, which pgrmdave won. We have now implemented the new user levels, with an automatic promotion system which gives you more access to different features at Hypography as your postcount goes up. Note that members who are currently in Level 0 will keep their avatars and signatures but cannot change them until they reach 10 posts. Here is an explanation for how our user levels are built up, and what the perks of the different levels are: Level 0: New membersUser title: CuriousNo signaturesCannot upload attachments (but can view others' attachments)Can use built-in avatars (not custom ones)Can send up to 5 Private MessagesCan vote in pollsCannot use reputation Level 1: 10 postsUser title: ThinkingCan use signatureCan have member groups (which means you can sign up for our editorial team etc)Can upload attachments, file limit 200Kb (total)Can post pollsCan use custom avatar: 80x80 pixels, 20Kb filesizeCan upload profile picture: 100x100, 20Kb filesizePrivate message storage: 50Can send PM to one member at a timeCan post, edit, and delete own events on the calendarCan view others' events on calendarCan leave negative reputation Level 2: 100 postsUser title: QuestioningAll of the Level 1 perks plusAttachment filesize: 500Kb (total)Avatar filesize: 30KbProfile picture: 150x150 pixles, 30Kb filesizePrivate message storage: 100Can use message tracking (meaning you can request "message read" notices)Can send PM to up to 3 members at a time Level 3: 250 postsUser title: UnderstandingAll of the Level 1 and 2 perks plusAttachment filesize: 1Mb (total)Avatar filesize: 40KbProfile picture: 150x150 pixles, 40Kb filesizePrivate message storage: 200Can send PM to up to 5 members at a timeCan view user notes about self (that others have posted) Level 4: 500 postsUser title: ExplainingAll of the Level 1, 2, and 3 perks plusCan see users who have chosen to be invisibleAttachment filesize: 4Mb (total)Avatar filesize: 45KbProfile picture: 200x200 pixles, 45Kb filesizePrivate message storage: 300Can send PM to up to 5 members at a timeCan view user notes about self (that others have posted)Can post user notes about self and others Level 5: 1000 postsUser title: CreatingUser name color: Black(note - to get this color, go to your UserCP -> Miscellaneous -> Group Memberships and locate the Posting Level 5, then choose "Identify me as a member of this group")All of the Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 perks plusCan set self to invisible modeCan see users who have chosen to be invisibleCan use custom title (ie, replace "Creating" with your own choice of title)*Attachment filesize: 6Mb (total)Avatar filesize: 50KbProfile picture: 300x300 pixles, 50Kb filesizePrivate message storage: 400Can send PM to up to 5 members at a timeCan view user notes about self (that others have posted)Can post user notes about self and others *note: Custom user title cannot include "Resident", "Moderator", "Editor", "Developer" or other reserved words. These levels will change over time to reflect the growth of the forums. Additional higher levels will eventually be necessary. Moderators, Junior moderators, and admins also follow the user levels, but have more "back end" allowances in order to do their job here at Hypography. Admins have bold red user names, moderators have green, junior mods have cyan. Paid subscriptions are available, which will let users jump straight to higher levels. Quote
C1ay Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Can set self to invisible modeAhhh, invisibility! Must have invisibility. Now we need a cloaking mode to block those that can see invisible people. Oh that's right, that's what "Log Out" is for :) Quote
Tormod Posted April 18, 2005 Author Report Posted April 18, 2005 Thanks. It took us a few days to get this set up...hope it works as intended. Quote
C1ay Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Level 5: 1000 postsUser title: CreatingUser name color: Black(note - to get this color, go to your UserCP -> Miscellaneous -> Group Memberships and locate the Posting Level 5, then choose "Identify me as a member of this group")All of the Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 perks plusCan set self to invisible modeCan see users who have chosen to be invisibleCan use custom title (ie, replace "Creating" with your own choice of title)*Attachment filesize: 6Mb (total)Avatar filesize: 50KbProfile picture: 300x300 pixles, 50Kb filesizePrivate message storage: 400Can send PM to up to 5 members at a timeCan view user notes about self (that others have posted)Can post user notes about self and othersCan manage user notes about selfCan hide reputation from othersI think maybe this happens at 1001 posts since I went to my user panel at 1000 and there was no user level 5. I guess I will find out after this post. Quote
C1ay Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Level 5: 1000 postsUser title: CreatingUser name color: Black(note - to get this color, go to your UserCP -> Miscellaneous -> Group Memberships and locate the Posting Level 5, then choose "Identify me as a member of this group")I have even logged out and back in and posting level 5 is not listed as an option in my group memberships. There must be a hiccup in the system somewhere. Quote
Queso Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 go to usercp/ group memberships and identify yourself as level 5! ;) Quote
Queso Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 me and you c1ay, the only black hypographers! Quote
C1ay Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 go to usercp/ group memberships and identify yourself as level 5! ;)I did. Level 5 is not listed as an option. I also just noticed that it won't let me access 'User Options' in my CP either. Quote
Killean Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Catch me on MSN and we can see about solving why you cannot access the user options. As for the Posting Level 5 usergroup, you should not be able to see it under the public usergroups. When you reach 1000 posts, every hour the promotions cron task runs and will add you to the new usergroup. When you have been added, you receive all the privilages that usergroup holds. me and you c1ay, the only black hypographers!*coughs* You are forgetting FreeThinker. Quote
Killean Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 As for the Posting Level 5 usergroup, you should not be able to see it under the public usergroups.I stand corrected. You can change your display group under the group memberships. Quote
Queso Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 ah, i did! havn't seem him around here lately, it's hard to keep track of everyone. Quote
Dark Mind Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 You forget, FreeThinker has left us. We were too much for him. He said in one of his PM's to me that he was tired of endless debates. HE SEEMED TO HAVE LIVED FOR THEM! Ahh, FreeThinker. He will be missed. Quote
Tormod Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 Freethinker was one of our most prolific members and really helped us gain momentum last spring. I see his point of view but think it is sad if he has chosen not to participate anymore. He was a moderator and an admin for a while, too. But that's life, really - so far not a single admin has lasted longer than a year - except GAHD, who needs to get his post count up soon... Quote
pgrmdave Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 FT was one of the first people I interacted with here, I'll miss him. Quote
bumab Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 That's too bad about FT. He was a little incendiary, but entertaining, none the less, and certainly got people involved in debates. Quote
