alexander Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Hehe, so i am finally back, finally, its not my longest absense, but certainly it has been by far the most eventful, figured i owed you guys to explain why i've been gone (though i have talked to some of you B) ) So as some of you know, i get involved in HOPE (Hackers On Planet Earth), been involved in the last 3 HOPEs, ever time it seems at least a little more, I help out the Radio Statler people, an online radio station that runs for the 3 days that HOPE takes place, but its ok, i don't mind helping :) What most of you don't know is that i almost didn't go this time, and there were various reasons for it, mostly financial, but i got a text from a good friend two weeks before the conference, and we talked for a while, and it turned out that 2 weeks before the conference he had no idea how he was going to go about setting up the PBX for the radio station. So since he was extremely busy doing other things, and a radio station needs to have a call center of some sort, with call screening, etc, etc. So basically in two weeks we (my friend Outcast and me) built a pbx with a call queue, figured out how to transfer people into it through code, wrote a form for the call screening with a database back end, wrote an ajax application for hte booth so the people in the booth could just transfer people into their bridge by clicking a button on the website that automagically refreshes, and also be able to drop people off the system (yaay another button). Anyways a ton of work, a lot of sleepless nights, and then the con, which got messed up right off the get-go, when the truck with all the networking and server gear (not mine, my stuff was up :) ) arrived at 2 am and we had to build a booth and set everything up for 9am... Anyways so the conference went awesome, lots of issues, like always, but all in all, it was a "Great Success", lots of good speakers, still cant believe i missed Dan Kaminsky's keynote, gotta order some DVDs. Anyways, basically since coming back, been working on some electronics projects, catching up on some things, work, we're nearing a public alpha release there, and it's anything but stress free ATM. So just a lot of things going on at the same time, but i am back, i will post, i will ban, i will delete. Feels good to be back... now off to check out CS :) ~ Alex Quote
IDMclean Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Glad to have you back. My vote: if it's a choice between posting on Hypography and going out to help the hacker community by helping setup a conference, I say go out and help. We're a patient sort, so while we'll miss you, we understand life is a busy journey filled with lots of detours and sight-seeing opportunities. Enjoy it while it lasts. B) Quote
alexander Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Trust me, i wanted to post, i have been having hypo deprivation, its crazy, plus i missed like everyone here, except for the spammers, but that goes without mention :)Also trust me, that is the watered down version of the watered down version of the story, the full story has a few more twists, a few more sleepless nights, and certain someone i met, buuut that story is only for a few people... very few... anyways, glad to be back :) Quote
