Speaking of boobs....

I totally disagree with Seth Shostak. I think that it is really unlikely that aliens don't know that we're here.

The way I think about it is in terms of time. I'm told that the earth itself is billions of years old. The universe is three times that. Right? That's a long time. And now I'm hearing that this may not even be the only universe. But anyway, my point is that when you start talking about time spans like that, shoot, anything could happen and probably has, more than once. It's silly to think that there wouldn't have been a multitude of intelligent life forms that came along, developed the ability to leave their planet and set out to explore.

Look at how the human race has developed in just a few hundred years. Heck, if we don't kill ourselves first there's every reason to believe that we will be out there trying to colonize or mine or just explore other planets in the relatively near future. I know that we can't fly fast enough yet but I bet there would still be volunteers for the trip.

It seems to me to be rather ludicrous and perhaps a little arrogant to think that in all eternity, we are the first creatures to get to this point in our development.

I am pretty confident that there are aliens who know that we're here. I can think of a number of reasons that they don't want to make contact with us however.
