greamsmith Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Aquatic biology is like marine biology in that you study the ecology and behavior of plants, animals, and microbes living water; however, instead of focusing on salt water, aquatic biology majors study freshwater inland lakes, ponds, rivers, creeks, and wetlands. Rade Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Well, aquatic biology is divided into two major fields of study, oceanography being the study of salt water habitats, limnology the study of freshwater habitats. Some habitats are mixtures (brackish waters) and are studied by both types of aquatic biologists. Aquatic means "water", so a terrestrial biology major would study ecological interactions of land organisms. Also, behavior is a type of activity that an ecologist would study. Many colleges located well away from oceans offer aquatic biology courses, it is assumed the course will emphasize topics dealing with freshwater and not salt water habitats. Quote
