ZACHERY41 Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, the charitable organization which has established itself over these years, has provided homes for a number of destitute children. They have various programs that provide help to these children in the right way. One of their programs is the Child and Family Program. The main objective of Child and Family program is to address issues before a crisis results in out-of-home placement of children. Many families need help when they face a crisis such as death, divorce, illness, violence, homelessness, alcohol/drug abuse and similar situations. These issues are dealt with by the Child and Family program while working to keep families together. They help families from receiving the services they need by helping removing the barriers. The Child and Family programs in PCHAS are conducted in the cities of Abilene, Austin, Corpus Christi, Corsicana, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Kilgore, Longview, San Antonio, Temple, Wichita Falls and Shreveport, Louisiana. The categories of people served by the program are families in need of emotional support, single parents who need help, grandparents raising grandchildren, families struggling with children’s difficult behavior, adolescents not living at home and parents who are at the end of their rope. The physical, emotional, social, educational, spiritual and financial concerns of the family are addressed to by the Child and Family spe cialist who works with these families. They visit families in their homes to assess needs. They identify strengths and determine areas in which families can grow. They develop goals to stabilize families, promote change and instill hope. They help families locate and access community services. They also build parenting and life skills. Family and individual counseling is also offered by this organization.
