Barase20 Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Remember the protagonist in Hemingway's masterpiece, `The Old Man and the Sea'? The novel portrayed Santiago, the old man, attempting to catch a huge fish alone. In his attempts to draw the enormous fish back to the shore, he was forced to wander in the sea aimlessly for days, wounded terribly, attacked by sharks and struggled never before. Yet he was successful in bringing the huge fish to the shore, though by the time he reached, only the skeleton of the fish remained intact. In this novel, Hemingway describes the determination of the Old man, `` A man can be destroyed but not defeated.'' This should be our mantra to chant before all challenges. There are many people attacked by deadly diseases and you should never lose dignity and confidence when you face such situations. You can lead a graceful life even if you are HIV infected, or disabled by the Parkinson's disease or Motor neuron disease or bed ridden with cancerous growth. There are volunteers and a society outside ready to welcome the affected and there are different medical systems to treat them. For example, the [sPAMLINK REMOVED] has improved the condition and brought the smiles back to many who are affected by Parkinson's disease. But the scientists and medical practitioners are yet to find a complete cure for cancer, AIDS and many such diseases. The mainstream and alternative medical fraternity are in intense research to beat these diseases and we can hope they will be successful within the near future. Quote
