modest Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Thanks modest. I read your post through carefully several times. And now I think I see what you mean. The black hole, does not get bigger, by new matter falling right down into the hole's centre. Rather, the new matter builds up around the hole's outer rim . So the hole expands, not from the centre, but by adding more "layers" to its outside. Hope I've understood it correctly! But honestly, "black holes" still remind me of "caloric fluid"! :)That is precisely what I meant which makes me really happy because I had a hard time figuring out how to say it and it is a rare occurrence that I'm understood :-) ~modest Turtle 1 Quote

That doesn't make Dopper shift the explanation of black holes. It just means that certain phenomena related to black holes can be interpreted as a Doppler shift if you look at the black hole a certain way. Quote
