belovelife Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 can making a plastic be used as a catylst stage for breaking the co2 bond thereby reducing the total amount of energy needed to make carbon fibre materials? Quote
HydrogenBond Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Carbon Dioxide or CO2 is a terminal product of combustion and is therefore very stable. This is not a good starting point for carbon fibre materials It is like trying to start a fire with frozen sticks. It is easier to begin with fossil fuel materials like coal or oil. These could benefit by a catalyst which can free hydrogen and leave behind carbon. CraigD 1 Quote
