Dark Mind Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 Who saw it opening day and what did you think? I saw it (opening day, with my friend who's really into movies:(.) and really thought it was kind of a let down. It's just like all the other Star Wars, you don't get anything you don't expect. The only cool part for me was watching and listening to Darth Vader take his first breath:). Quote
Rincewind Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 I'm off to see it in about half an hour. Quote

The general gist of that storyline was given in the first three. The only thing these last few can do is tell the background of that storyline. They complement each other throughout the whole storyline. Did you expect Darth Vadar to somehow turn out to be in league with the Jedi all along and this was all some game of sorts? Or perhaps that the darkside should have won everything in the end? Quote
TeleMad Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 I liked it a lot. It was a good movie in the sense of a movie. Sure, it had excellent special effects (you could really feel that the scenes were real, not usual blue screen overshots that have dark fringes around all moving objects), but it also had a meaningful and clear plot that it followed without extraneous stuff thrown in, and there were no "Arnold" one-liners to take away from the tension or pace. Sure, we all knew who was going to live and who was going to die, who was going to turn evil and who wasn't, but seeing it happen is different than knowing it's going to happen. PS: My main complaint is a nit pick: unrelated to the storeline at all. But at the beginning, Obe Won and Annikin (sorry, not enough of a Star Wars geek to know how to spell their names properly) were coming in for a crash landing. They had already entered the atmosphere and various fires were raging across the ship, which was diving almost uncontrollaby. But then some "fire craft" began flying along side of it and sprayed water onto the fires: the water moved from through the air as if the two ships were sitting still on the ground. Uhm, hello, the craft are flying through air at some hundred or so miles per hour: water isn't going to just fly straight across the gap from one ship to the other as if they were sitting still on the ground. Air resistance. Quote

You knew next to *everything* that was going to happen, and they didn't even do that great of a job building up on the only thing they had going for them... suspense. The element of surprise would've done nicely in this film. Quote

I just told myself it was some type of futuristic flame retardant that was fairly heavy so it could maintain the relative speed of the object from which it was expelled.:) Quote
scarlett1219 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 I haven't see that movie Is it worth watching? Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 9, 2005 Author Report Posted June 9, 2005 I'll have to say yes, if you've seen the others. It would also be worth it just to see Darth Vader take his first, rasping breath :hyper:. That was one of the best parts of the whole movie for me, that and watching Yoda kick *** again . Oh, and the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin was pretty cool too. By the way, welcome to Hypography. Quote
scarlett1219 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 thank you very much for your kindness and hospitality:-)I'll take a look at that movie if I have time Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I saw it not just opening day but at 12:01am, then went again the next day - so yeah i liked it... Quote
Lilac Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 I liked it, actually, even though there were no real surprises. It tied up all the loose ends - and even a couple I didn't think were loose - in a nice tidy package, and completed the cycle. Lucas even explained how it was that Obi-wan had Annakin's lightsaber to give to Luke in Episode 1, and how Leia could be "anonymous" even as a princess. If Vader believed all those years that Padme and her baby had both died, it would explain how he could have been surprised at Luke's emergence - and not even known about his sister. And Chewie even made an appearance - which made it all worthwhile. (And the scenes on Kashyyk (the Wookie homeworld) quite made up for that horrible, horrible, to-be-forgotten-immediately Christmas special a few years back.... (Can you tell I AM a Star Wars geek? :hihi: ) Quote
TeleMad Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 I just saw it for the second time this past weekend: wasn't planning to, but me and the kids both decided we wanted to. It was great even the second time. Quote
Nezenic Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 I saw it twice, and I really enjoyed it, especially the first time.I had not seen every movie of star wars, in face I've only seen episode 1 and 4 before seeing this one, but I still knew pretty well what is going on. Perhaps it was the lack of knowledge of the other movies, but when I saw this movie for the first time, it really had me twisted into actually thinking that the jedi were the bad guys. The second time I saw it, I noticed how naive and gullible I was being, but it was definitely still worth watching. Quote
