Deepwater6 Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 http://abcnews.go.com/International/paul-frampton-court-argentina-convicts-unc-professor-drug/story?id=17799280 OK, I understand that lust can make a 68yr old Oxford educated professor of Astonomy and Physics do some crazy things. Such as thinking that Miss Bikini World of 2007 is eager for you to take her on a date. This lust must also have blinded him to the fact that normal logic would wonder why he has no such luck with models in this country. Even so ignorance is bliss and I'm willing to chalk that part up to a lonely heart. All that aside, for such an educated man in these post 9/11 days to walk on a plane with a suitcase from a stranger without knowing it's contents is little Forest Gumpish to me. His colleagues must have some additional facts other than what the article states to want to support him so vigorously. Either way if the text messages are true he would be guilty in my eyes. :thumbs_do Quote
Mountain Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) If one was to include Wisdom, Common sense and social understanding into IQ scores we would have many less geniuses on earth. Sixty eight years old and still single, I feel for the guy. No matter how smart you may be, nature still pushes us to have relationships and breed. Edited September 8, 2013 by Mountain Quote
CraigD Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 No matter how smart you may be, nature still pushes us to have relationships and breed.I agree. I don't think characterizing Frampton as devoid of common sense is accurate. My best guess is that, like many successful, competitive people, Frampton was overconfident, misjudging his likelihood of being caught in a criminal act. Effective confidence schemes often exploit the overconfidence of successful people, who, by to the reasoning various accounts of con schemes I’ve read tend of incorrectly assume that their skills in the fields of their specialties translate into skills in others, such as criminal activities. It appears to me that Frampton knew full well that a beautiful young woman would not be interested in him without a quid-pro-quo exchange, and that the quid-pro-quo was smuggling cocaine in exchange for companionship and sex. I suspect Frampton’s ordinary social skills are appallingly poor, because, in my experience, even very unattractive academics with even a modicum of such skills can find willing, young, attractive partners for companionship and sex via quid-pro-quos involving arguably unethical, but not legally hazardous illegal activities. I also suspect there's some as least moderately severe psychopathology underlying Frampton’s behavior. About the only Freudian psychotherapeutic idea I much credit is that the ability to have a healthy sexual relationship is a key sign of a well-adjusted psyche. Quote
Abe40 Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 A Chinese proverb says: no matter how wise a man, a woman can always flop him; and no matter how stupid a woman she can always get her man. Quote
arissa Posted April 2, 2014 Report Posted April 2, 2014 I think sometimes people think too much with their heart and less with their mind. I am sure this is not the first time and I know it won't be the last either. Sometimes the mind plays tricks when it comes to the heart (or just plain flattery). Quote
