Rade Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 An interesting paper which takes the view that quantum states, both pure and mixed, are "states of incomplete knowledge" rather than "states of reality". http://arxiv.org/pdf/quant-ph/0401052v2.pdf Seems to me that this would apply to 'quantum states' but not to 'classical states' because in quantum theory a decision is made to incorporate the reference frame internal to the state within an un-real Hilbert space, whereas in classical theory the reference frame is always the background resource to which some description of the state is referred. This background is real. Thus classical states must be "states of reality" and not "states of incomplete knowledge". Any comments appreciated. Quote
