SaxonViolence Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 When watching television... When the cameras pointed in the general direction of the sun—sometimes other light sources as well—you will see a row of ghost Hexagons all in a row along a sunbeam. Where do the Hexagons come from? Presumably these aren't crystal scattering, since glass isn't a crystal. ????? Saxon Violence Quote
Turtle Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 They come from the camera iris diaphragm. Depending on how many leaves the diaphragm has, the number of sides in the artifact can vary. source CraigD 1 Quote
Turtle Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 PS I should add that the hexagonal shape of the artifact is due to the iris, but the artifact itself is called lens flare and is due to reflections internal to the lens. >> Lens flare @Wiki Quote
