Moontanman Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 We know that basil makes oxygen even at night. How? i think you should support this assertion, i see no reason to assume basil will make oxygen in the absence of light... Turtle 1 Quote

Turtle Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 Ever the caring terrapin, and lack of reference in the OP notwithstanding, in partial answer the process wherein plants predominately respire at night is called Crassulacean acid metabolism. At the link I find no specific mention of oxygen output in these plants, however since respiration occurs through the stomata and the stomata in these crassulacean acid metabolizing plants are only open at night, I presume any gaseous oxygen production is accomplished at night. Plants using this strategy are primarily plants of arid environs and I do not see any basil listed at the link. That will be $2 US currency deposited to PayPal account #3387R45 from each reader. I'm not doing this for nothing after all. Quote
Ahmabeliever Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 NASA found that the Mother-in-law's tongue produces oxygen at night. I assume it's a CAM plant. http://www.ted.com/talks/kamal_meattle_on_how_to_grow_your_own_fresh_air Quote
