I have just finished reading Susannah Cahalan's book "Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness." It's a narrative account of her struggle with a rare autoimmune disease called anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis that affects the brain. Since the symptoms include memory impairment, paranoia and hallucinations, the person who has the disease might be seen as schizophrenic or psychotic.
