Hope the clear skies by me hold. Saturn is also at opposition so it's the best time to see it! Anyone star gazing tonight?

Happy Astronomy Day to you too. :) If the weather clears, I be lookin' up. Don't miss Mars either as it leads Saturn. Might also be lookin' aside as Mercury has reappeared this month, although I don't have a clear Western horizon from home. Who's idea was it to plant those trees!! :tree: :tree: . Here's a site I sometimes use to plan planetary play dates: The Night Sky This Month

I got new scope from the kids for Christmas. With them having fun telling me that "this should help you find the aliens you are always looking for dad." But I have the same problem, spotty showers and possible T-Storms around my way, not sure I can get a good view.

I fully understand the fascination of viewing the heavens via even quite a small telescope, but I confess my star gazing is limited to brief naked eye 'gazing' on frosty winter evenings. My hankering for astronomy is satisfied by reading popular books on the subject, supplemented by research papers on my areas of particular interest, including planetary formation, meteorites and vulcanology.
