BrettNortje Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 A diode is a regulatory thing, while a chip is there for calculations and communication. so, if you were to count electricity as a form of communication, and they were to both transmit a signal, then why not be classed as more or less the same thing. Then again, it is like saying a chicken and a lion are both animals, yes? it really isn't the same thing, but they both are electronics. you could also say that one talks in binary or on and off, yes of no, and the other simply charges up, yes? What is a cow? Quote
Eclogite Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Does a chip contain diodes? Yes.How are calculations performed in a chip? By regulating current flow. You cannot count electricity as a form of communication any more than you can count a roadway as a holiday. Yes, diodes and chips are both elements within electronics, but what does that have to do with dies? Quote

LaurieAG Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 I thought die was shorthand for diode. my apologies. Don't worry Brett, a die is also one of a pair of dice. Quote

Since dies and molds are related that's what I imagined you were speaking of here. I didn't consider other possibilities. Quote
