damocles Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 Adaptation and incorporation of the Mexican immigrant is not American capitulation. It is a logical response to a dynamic process that isn't going away(Mexican migration) and which of itself is too massive to accommodate by any means short of prudent peaceful effects mitigation(absorption and cultural renormalization of the immigraant into American society turning the immigrant Mexicans into Americans); or extreme violence(armed border conflict) that only generates unneedded and wasteful resource dissolution that puts off(for a short while) the inevitable migration and breeds an immigrant population that resists renormalization much more fiercely than the current intruders. What are you going to do? Make war upon them? That is the only way you will stop them by violence. What then? Are you prepared to handle Mexico? What about Central America? Did you know that Mexico has the same problem along her southern border that America has along her southern border? Sidebar; What about Cuba? Should we turn away immigrants from Cuba? Consistency in policy? Migration is a biological adaptation to environmental pressures(too many animals; not enough food). Those pressures don't go away. Either the animals fight over the existing range or they redistribute. There is no middle ground at the moment. I prefer redistribution. It wastes less energy. The only way that humans are going to outrun Malthus in our current range is if we increase the amount of energy per human used per current volume occupied. That means we as a species have to become collectively richer by a factor of at least two or maybe more to squeeze enough food out of our current ecological niche to comfortabnly feed ourselves. I doubt we will be wise enough to limit our number or the heavy footprint we impose on the planetary ecology, so I expect a massive(self inflicted) killoff of humans as we deplete our range(when the oil runs out). Of course if we were truly wise we would have found a safety valve(new frontier) for our surplus populations..... Quote
questor Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 i guess the president agrees with you since he has done nothing to stop the flow. i think it is always wise to consider the results of an action Before you commit it. the results of your actions will permit free flow of anyone who wishes to come to our country from anywhere. it will permit terrorists to infiltrate along with the Mexicans, or to infiltrate from Canada as they have already done. since you are offering no resistance to the influx, the illegals will take that as an open invitation to increase their inflow. this of course is already happeningdue to our lack of protest. this will put an increasing drain upon out natural resources and increase our need for oil. new houses, schools, roads, and infrastructure of all types will be needed to handle the increased traffic. the Hispanics are our most prolific reproducers, so new schools, government agencies, increased government programs and Spanish speaking employees will be needed to handle these low wage workers who pay little taxes, but consume a high percentage of resouces compared to what they contribute.do you think the resources of this country and the world are infinite? we may have already passed the number of people who can live comfortably in the confines of our borders. you're saying let everyone come in? this is a recipe for disaster. wxman2001 Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 The energy crisis and a large source of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions would end if big energy companies and the governments could agree to really sink their teeth into developing and BRINGING DOWN THE COSTS of generating electricity from renewables, from the ones everyone knows about like solar, wind and geothermal, and those less well known, like floating heat engines in the warm tropical waters (uses the hot surface water near 88 F degrees and the cold water at depth ~ 40 F to run a carnot cycle engine to produce either power, or fresh water, or some of both) or wave energy, with the exciting new results of the Archimedes Wave Swing. This is a huge partially floating piston-type engine that magnifies the effects of the waves by keeping the cylinder at a higher internal pressure than sea level when it's fully extended, essentially providing an extra bounce to the piston as the waves interact with it, such that the vertical motion of the piston is larger than the height of the waves. I also think many more people need to invest in their own source of energy to run their house or small community, whether its a micro-hydroelectric system on a creek in the property or a wind tower or whatever....WE ALL NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR PRODUCING OUR POWER IN A GREEN WAY, EVEN IF COSTS MORE OUT OF OUR POCKET TO START OFF!!
