BrettNortje Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 I am a smoker, and have always though that if, when i use a lighter, blow my first drag out, it is good. why is it good to my mind? well, i figure all the fumes in that first drag should not be breathed in. Is there anything anyone can say to make me quit smoking? anything like seeing better and smelling better i have heard before. Quote
JMJones0424 Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 I can say nothing to make you quit smoking. You are, I suppose, an intelligent human being. You know the health risks. You are able to weigh the benefits of smoking versus the risks. If you want to quit, nothing I can say will prevent you from doing so. If you want to continue smoking, then I am likewise unable to prevent you from doing so. It is your choice, and that choice has nothing at all to do with my eloquence. Quote

JMJones0424 Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Crutches are what get us through life. It's too easy for an outsider to comment for or against one's crutch. I used to smoke. To be honest, there are times that I still wish that I did. What I do know is that I quit smoking simply because I wanted to quit. Don't get me wrong, there were many times that I tried to quit smoking and failed. There is much to be said for the benefit of the ceremony of lighting and enjoying a cigarette. Nicotine is a complex drug that has had a very important part of my life in the past. I chose not to continue to smoke. If that is your wish as well, then I hope the best for you. I found that replacing the ceremony was very important. I can't offer specific solutions, but I can attest to the fact that it is possible to quit, if you want to. Quote

Eclogite Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Is there anything anyone can say to make me quit smoking? anything like seeing better and smelling better i have heard before.No. Nothing. Why? Because you have asked the question. You have set down a challenge. You have placed responsibility for quitting on your audience, transfering it from where it belongs, with you. That denial of responsibility shows that you are very far away from the mental attitude in which quitting might be possible. Therefore anything anyone says to try to persuade you otherwise would be wasted. All I can do is hope that your death is neither too soon, nor too painful. JMJones0424 1 Quote
JMJones0424 Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 What did you replace the ceremony with?I used to smoke when stressed, now I run, weed the garden, or do some other mindless physical activity. Instead of smoking after a meal, I sip a hot cup of coffee or tea. Whenever possible, I don't put myself in situations where others are smoking socially. Quote
