Spider Showers In Australia Not Only Case Of Animal Precipitation

Anyone have any clues beside the unsatisfactory explanation of waterspouts and whirlwinds that might help explain the weird reports of animal precipitation throughout history?

Well spiders intentionally spread by playing out silk and letting the wind take them, sometimes by the millions. I can see how a rain storm could cause them to fall out of the sky in huge numbers.
