A message from a colleague:

 

If you allow me to carry my cynicism a bit further, I would describe the Paris agreement about climate change as a fig leaf. It allows everyone to continue doing what they want while being able to say they tried to stop the seas from rising. They can say to the people being drowned, "we did our best, so stop complaining".  Meanwhile, fossil fuels will be phased out only as fast as is convenient and economically beneficial, as would have been the case without the agreement. Meanwhile, everyone can be happy for a little longer.

I tend to agree with that assessment.  It does nothing concrete, but allows all participants to feel good about themselves.

With on so many ways divided geostrategic, corporative, and individual interests in western world, and growing hunger for energy and resources in most populated developing countries, it is impossible to manage some joint environmentally friendly policy. Therefore all political decisions are mostly cosmetic in fact, and doomed in execution.

 

Maybe cockroaches will be smarter.

I suggest that the people living near rising waters relocate.  The climate changes constantly, and unlike plants, humans are mobile.  We always have been on the move and we will always be on the move.  No amount of whining is going to affect the rising water.
