HydrogenBond Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 The brain is an organ that operates based on free energy flow. There are natural ways for the brain to move and dissipate energy. If these natural pathways become dammed, due to repressions, the brain potential can increase. The brain will find others ways to lower potential. The higher the potential that needs to be lowered the more dynamics output may result; psychosis. As an analogy, say you have a shallow river that flows to the sea. The river is in a valley. We place a dam in the valley for hydroelectric power. The water will back up and get deeper and deeper. This can be useful if we use the hydraulic pressure to generate electricity. This way the water reaches a certain level and stops. But if we don't use the water for anything, the level behind the dam can rise until it starts to flow over the top of the dam. This creates stresses on the thinnest part the dam, which can lead to catastrophic failure. This allow the water level to fall. Our natural instincts offer a way to maintain the flow of the river, so to speak. The needs of culture and the ego, via choice and will power, places dams that allows us to build potential for hydroelectric power. This give us more energy to do ll kind of thing animals don't do. But not all people have enough outlets for the damming they and culture does to the brain. For some, the level of energy slowly rises over time, and can reach the top of the dam. The result can be very dynamic internal adjustments. If we did nothing, our memory will change with time, as it forward integrates memory into wisdom of age. Repressions tend to be reinforced almost daily by habits that rewrite the memory, as fast as it tries to change, naturally. Psychiatry uses drugs to break the cycle. Drugs can alter moods so the mind can go elsewhere and not reinforce the past. Psychology attempts to deal with the dams we create without artificially altering the moods. The first is a hardware solution and the second is a software solution. Quote
