What is the area between the skull and the scalp called - its scientific name? 2. Neuroscience for Dummies describes part of the activity in that area thus: "Another kind of electrical stimulation is transcranial magnetic stimulation. (TMS). TMS uses a strong, pulsed magnetic field, generated just outside the skull to produce localized currents within the brain areas underneath the coil. What, pray tell, is the "coil"? Thank you. Quote
