Maximum7 Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 What 25 things do we need scientists to create in order to "live long and prosper"? Quote
Maine farmer Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 How would you define "long" , how would you measure prosperity, and how would you define "need". It seems as we invent more things, we just fill our lives with junk, and push satisfaction ever farther from our reach. Quote
sanctus Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 Why 25 and not 22? :-)Clean energy for a start.Proper benevolent AI.Eradicate starvation from the globe.Sustainable methods of transportation both of people and goods.etc. Quote
Deepwater6 Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 For "long term" my vote would be propulsion. To get humans to other habitable planets within hundreds of years instead thousands. Propulsion to drive a ship quickly that can support and sustain multiple generations while making the trip. Quote

That is not an invention, nor could any invention guarantee to do that. Our trouble here on Earth is not inadequate production of food, but of getting that food to the people who are going without. Politics is largely the cause of starvation. If people can't learn to help one another, we will be doomed in spite of our inventiveness. sanctus and Buffy 2 Quote
Buffy Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 Batteries that actually, you know, "work." "Work" == Enough capacity to generate large amounts of power in a very small space (e.g. battery for an electric car that's smaller than 0.05 cubic meters), and can be fully recharged in 10 minutes or less. I am somewhat exhausted; I wonder how a battery feels when it pours electricity into a non-conductor? :phones:Buffy Quote
