It is only a curiosity question that came to me out of the blue.  Usually (maybe always), by the time a student gets to his/her doctorate, he has specialized.  In Science, for example, he may get a PhD in Biology, Cosmology, or any of the other fields.  Then he may go for a post-doctorate in a second field. What I am wondering is is there such a PhD as Doctor of Science?  Is there a career that would require a person to be able to handle problems in many science fields?  And he would need a PhD that covered all or most?

Just wondering.  Thanks.
