I am interested in almost everything science, but my favorites are astronomy, cosmology, least favorites are life sciences biology, etc. I will  probably get more than my fair share of poison pen replies  because I am a Christian and tend to po secular types but I don't make it my job it just happens when I say things like 'Evolution is just a THEORY! ....actually I agree with I would guess 98% of evolutionary theory.  I am an independent and vote the issues not the party. I do lean conservative in the majority of those issues but not as many as a stereotypical Christian would be expected to. For example I abhor most censorship especially in art because well, I dabble in weird art....and most art that offends Christians are not anti christian. The Jesus n the bottle of pee is a good example of that. I only draw my personal moral line in matters of child porn and non consensual sex being illustrated. Ask me anything because I have left a lot out my skin is thicker than most. I don't tolerate people that deliberately try to piss me off because It works! Lol I look forward to debate and otherwise having my way with you all ...lol, just injecting a bit of levity into this intro....btw I am from hillbilly land ie eastern TN ~

We recommend you stick to stuff you enjoy, and our main rule around here is "don't piss people off!" It's generally considered to be a bad idea! :cheer:

Don't worry. The normal educated Christian, as opposed to the silly Dawkins caricature, has no problem with evolution or any of the other theories of science. Just don't say "it's only a theory" on this forum, because that will be a red rag to a bull, given that evolution has just the same status in terms of reliability as most of the theories of science. :)  It is a truism that no theory in science is ever proven, but the better corroborated they are, the more we can rely on them. Evolution stands up pretty well on that criterion.

I am interested mainly in chemistry, physics and geology, but I understand a bit of astronomy. I'm also interested in the philosophy of science and in the relationship between science and religion. Being brought up Christian and still retaining a great deal of affection and respect for the culture, traditions and institutions of the church, even though I don't take much of the doctrine literally these days, I often find myself defending it against attacks based on prejudice or ignorance.

See you around on the forum.

See you around on the forum.

We have many mutual interests and I do understand 'its just a theory' is a firebrand! Well, in college I didn't do well in chemistry but loved to dabble in it throughout my life. I too find it difficult to tolerate ignorance, and its cousins bigotry etc. In my personal opinion philosophy, especially the philosophy of science is becoming a necessary tool for discovery because our standard tools of science do not work at energy  scales produced at the 'moment' and just after the big bang, to say nothing of before or outside the time line the BB seems to created. And I have an intense interest in the what really went on just after the universe's 'singularity' emerged allowing the big bang to begin. Lastly, I am a 'fair weather' christian and find myself defending Christianity's values even when some of them are not compatible or the same as mine ...why is that?

Thanks for the welcome.
