petrushkagoogol
Humans (myself) can still beat Computers in computationally less complex board games like tic-tac-toe and Othello. Chess is a different ball game ... Why ? :vava:
Moronium
Because chess computers operate on a "brute force" basis, making billions of calculations per second. That's an over-simplification of how they work but, bottom line, that's why they beat you. Their capacity to compute at amazing speeds just can't be matched by humans. Chess is infinite: There are 400 different positions after each player makes one move apiece. There are 72,084 positions after two moves apiece. There are 9+ million positions after three moves apiece. There are 288+ billion different possible positions after four moves apiece. There are more 40-move games on Level-1 than the number of electrons in our universe. There are more game-trees of Chess than the number of galaxies (100+ billion), and more openings, defences, gambits, etc. than the number of quarks in our universe! http://www.bernmedical.com/blog/how-many-possible-move-combinations-are-there-in-chess Chess computers do not rule out any move "on principle" because it "seems" bad (letting your queen be taken with no compensation which is foreseeably--by a human person--apparent, for example). There are still some games with smaller decision trees than Chess where humans can win ! petrushkagoogol
Heh, well, yeah, I can beat chess computers all day long--at lower levels of analysis, but..... I am rated at 2300+ according to chessworld. I have been playing a while now, strongly for four years. I cannot beat a chess computer at top level. An antiquated system, yes.
