Dark Mind Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 I was wondering, have astronomers/physicists been able to determine when light was fist given off in our universe. Was it when the Big Bang happened (By the way, what type of an explosion was that, was it the kind that had all sorts of pretty colors and loud noises, like fireworks!? ) or was light being given off prior to the Big Bang. Just a musing, something of mild interest. Quote

UncleAl Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 When the Big Bang sufficiently exapanded and cooled to allow plasma recombination to neutral atoms the universe went transparent to visible light. That is cosmic backgrund radiation, now cooled deep into the microwave region. Quote
