motherengine Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 now as far as attraction being related to symmetry being related to health, i am not seeing real world correlations to this. of course my observations are very limited though i see no empirical reasoning behind the darwinian theory concerning rules of attraction. call me crazy or suggest an alternate reasoning behind why a norm of beauty and symmetry exists. is this thread in the right place? 'evolution' did not jump out at me for some reason. Quote
Queso Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 the natural occurance of symmetry just further proves the balance :circle: Quote
Buffy Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 This month's SciAm has an article that discusses the fact that Bilaterians evolved much earlier in Earth's history that previously suspected. "Bilaterian" means it symetric. If it goes back that far, its not surprising most animals of all kinds find "symmetry" to be "beautiful". Its a proven fact that people commonly identified as beautiful have very *unsymmetrical* faces though. Go figure. Have you ever noticed that you almost NEVER see Mickey Mouse except from the side? (Logo for Mickey Mouse Club is one of the few exceptions....) Cheers,Buffy Quote

pgrmdave Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 I think I remember hearing that while we like symmetrical faces, if it is perfectly symmetrical, it seems fake, and unrealistic, thus we reject it, but I cannot substantiate that. Quote
