PopSciFi: Flash Gordon Serials (from the 30's: I liked the Queen sound track but hated the 80s movie...)

Bad Sci Fi Made Better: "This Island Earth: Mystery Science Theater Version"

Horror: Original "Night of the Living Dead" or original "Alien" (the first time only)

Not horror, just plain wierd: "The Wicker Man" (Prolly my fave of ALL time)

Disney SciFi: "20k Leagues Under the Sea"

Disneyesque Sci Fi: "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (James Mason version, Classic!)

Women on Top Sci Fi: "Barbarella"

End of Earth SciFi: "When Worlds Collide" (although not as good as....)

Thinking Woman's Sci Fi: Tie: "The World, The Flesh and The Devil" and "On The Beach"

Weird End of Earth: "A Boy and his Dog" (a must even if you can't stand Don Johnson)

Channeling Shakespeare SciFi: "Forbidden Planet" (wide screen version!)

Sci Fi Parody On Purpose: "Galaxyquest"

Sci Fi Parody Accidental: "Zardoz" (distant second because unlike Zardoz, its actually good: "The Fifth Element")

Sci Fi Western: "Outland"

Sci Fi Comedy Accidental: "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" (a classic!)

Sociology Fi: "A Clockwork Orange" (runner up "THX-1138")

Rock n' Sci Fi: "The Man Who Fell to Earth"

Monty Python Sci Fi: "Brazil" (honorable mention "Twelve Monkeys")

Cheezy Monsters: All of the Godzilla films from Toho, (but especially the uncut original Gojira without the stupid Raymond Burr scenes inserted)

Alien Invaders: "Five Million Years to Earth" ("Quatermass and the Pit" to you Brits) (Too many to choose here, but this is it for me...)

Time Travel: The Time Machine (1960 version with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimeux)

Worst Sci Fi Ever: "Manos: Hands of Fate" (honorable mention: "Plan 9 from Outer Space", although the "making of" version of it, "Ed Wood" is one of the best films of all time!)

The Matrix, Star Wars (IV, V & VI) and Back to the Future.

 

One of my fave movies is Donnie Darko, which has some sciencey themes, but prob doesn't really count as sci-fi (more cult i guess).

Come on who wouldn't include Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey in there as best comedy sci-fi, or Space Balls (JK on the Space Balls, i can't stand the movie)

 

Best new Sci-Fi 2005, Serenity (Sci-Fi western)

Best of all time Sci-Fi books I've read, Canticle for Liebowitz, Left Hand of Darkness, Neuromancer.

My dad always had a crush on Charlotte Rampling, but he said, "even I can't sit through that dreck..." and he's a sci-fi and Sean Connery fan too. Okay, its weird, and I wish Joel and the 'Bots had the chance to razz it on Mystery Science Theater, but it really is *bad*!
