hazelm Posted December 24, 2019 Report Posted December 24, 2019 (edited) https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/12/191223122824.htm "Luke has 22 marbles. He loses 18. How many marbles does he have left?" No, don't think "subtract"; see it as calculating a difference. Or, so say the educators of this new theory being tested with second graders. Don't think "subtract"; think "difference"? But that's what subtracting is --- finding a difference. Every school child knows that. "I need a difference; I subtract." And how do you stop anyone from thinking what he is thinking. The minute someone tells you not to think about a certain thing, that thing is exactly what you will think about. I'll bet most of you remember the story of the person who was going to get a great gift if he managed not to think about it for so many minutes. Whatever works. Edit: Spell-check played with the title. The method is ACE-arithmEcole. Now, let's see if this stays. Edited December 24, 2019 by hazelm Quote
