Dubbelosix Posted February 23, 2020 Report Posted February 23, 2020 You said, that I said it will decay in our lifetimes, I said no such thing. Quote
Timboo Posted February 23, 2020 Author Report Posted February 23, 2020 But you said Timboo, on 18 Feb 2020 - 10:38 AM, said:So it is possible then in our lifetime this can cause vacuum decay? Yes, but the decay would be a quantum leap from one configuration to another. Whether it is reversible is another issue. Quote
Dubbelosix Posted February 23, 2020 Report Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) What part of scientists do not work with absolute terms? If it helps I am 99 ****ing point 99999999 percent certain it won't? Edited February 23, 2020 by Dubbelosix Quote
Timboo Posted February 23, 2020 Author Report Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) Ok sorryI was going by your comments Edited February 23, 2020 by Timboo Quote
Dubbelosix Posted February 23, 2020 Report Posted February 23, 2020 OK, but please don't think that a scientist is ever absolutely sure, what I am saying is that the vacuum decay due to the Higgs is a massive speculation. In fact, many assumptions we have had about the Higgs boson, has been purely speculation. Quote
Dubbelosix Posted February 23, 2020 Report Posted February 23, 2020 Read up on sigma values, they tell you about how scientists are certain or uncertain about things, but only in statistical ways. Quote

Dubbelosix Posted February 23, 2020 Report Posted February 23, 2020 I would say no. Be more worried about climate change, because in that respect, we are seeing the final days if we do not do anything about it. Just regukating how we live, how we eat and how we consume energy will play big parts, but the biggest parts need to come from the money hoarding moguls who are systematically abusing the planet and the life on it. Always good to have clarification Have a good day Edited February 23, 2020 by Timboo Quote

Timboo Posted February 23, 2020 Author Report Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) Even scientists can act like doom soothsayers. Not sure what you mean I thought it was nothing to worry about? I was talking about news articles and stuffThey all say not for billions of years but then throw in it can happen at any time. Edited February 23, 2020 by Timboo Quote
Timboo Posted February 23, 2020 Author Report Posted February 23, 2020 I saw your post on the higgs and it’s spin, does that imply vacuum decay is more possible Quote
Dubbelosix Posted February 23, 2020 Report Posted February 23, 2020 I saw your post on the higgs and it’s spin, does that imply vacuum decay is more possibleNot at all, it implies we have our understanding wrong... Besides, a vacuum doesn't decay because of a single particle, the universe will decay back into energy given time, but its a long time from now. Quote

So move along and stop panicking yourselves. Edited February 23, 2020 by Dubbelosix Quote

I am not questioning your responses I am hoping for the facts that explain this Dr Katie Mack seems to think it is very plausible Edited February 23, 2020 by Timboo Quote
