Vmedvil2 Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 It seems a group of scientist have confirmed that the universe is 13.8 billion years old, read more at https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/07/15/age-universe-13-8-billion-years-scientists-confirm/3287409001/ Quote
Mutex Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 Wait what? Last I heard was that the many methods for observing the Cosmological constant, was producing DIVERGENT results, they were not at all converging, not even the error bars overlapped! Plus they are trying to grapple with the Hubble constant being different in different locations, making the age of the Universe different as well of course (different in different places). This is why there is a 'crisis in cosmology'. There is even more and more people coming to the conclusion that the big bang did not happen at all, so the CMB and redshift are just the results of different mechanism. In that case, we have no idea of when or even IF the Universe started. Plus, I'm not real keen on science 'confirming' things, sciences does not do that, it does not prove things right. Quote
