I believe the sequence should continue ...2 6 1 4 4 7...

 

Looking at 2 9 3 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 I noticed the 1st and 3rd digits increased by 1. Looking to see if the 2nd and 4th digits did the same, I noticed they did not. But, the 2nd and 4th-5th digits double. Continuing in this way gives:

 

2 9 3 18 4 36 5 7...

 

The red is all about the doubling while the black goes about its counting by 1.

Oops, I didn't really answer Freezy's actual riddle question "What's the next number in this sequence?" [gulp] I think it would have to be 2 following the reasoning in my last post.

 

It looks like Turtle did guess zero in post 2194, but I don't see a response from Freezy—must have been after he left.

word that I was looking for, now here it is filled out from above.....

Any time something comes up in my life that can affect it greatly, I let the word "REALIZATION"

come to mind so that I can write down all the good and bad and make the best choice.
