yea he's wrong. That was on the simpsons last night, Mo got a book of brain teasers and threw it away because that question was too hard. But you're right, the answer is his son, not himself.

not this riddle again! I have had day long debates with people and come up with no resolution - my idea is that there is two ways of interpereting it, and I actually remember a time when I could see it both ways - been himself and his son... but that was a while ago and I have forgotten the logic... The favourable answer is his son

this man's father is my father's son, well, I don't see how this could possibly be himself. You would replace "this man's" with "my" and replace "my father's son" with "me" (since he had no brothers/sisters) and you get:

 

my father is me.

 

While through incest I guess you could become your step-dad, I don't see how you can become your own father. I'd love to see the logic, sounds like some real fuzzy logic.
