man from okinawa Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 I have some questions.1) How are the golden rectangle and the golden ratio related? 2) Is a standard piece of paper 8.5X11 a golden rectangle? 3) Where do you see golden rectangles in everyday life? Nature?
Tim_Lou Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 hmm... do you know what golden ratio is?its about a point on a line. which C is a point on ABand CB^2=AB*AC hmm....golden rectangle, i dont really know what it is....(i skip geometry when i came here)is it like one side square = to the total of 2 sides* the shorter side....? if so, you can do calculation on the 8.5X11 paper thing. (sry, cant help much here)
Tormod Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 A golden rectangle is a rectangle where the ratio of the short side to the long side is equal to the ratio of the sum of the sides to the long side. So it's just a rectangle where a line is broken at point C. Search google for "phi +golden rectangle" and you should get a few good results. phi is the number you get when you divide A/B and is about 1.61803399... it is an irrational number, like Pi.
