The warp drive theory is based on general relativity's assumptions about what spacetime is, or that it even is a thing in the first place. 

It could be that microgravity from local mass in the vacuum has a frame-dragging frequency, and ticks between each times the collective frames of mass objects in the matter-energy reactions that drags your ship via gravitation in any given direction, determines the ultimate velocity it can achieve.

Quantum tunnelling however, has been shown to produce ftl frame-drag rates. Like dark matter-energy reactions in dark star black hole theory.
