It seems that there are 10 gene responsible for schizophrenia along with 22 genes that give risk for the disorder and now there can be a genetic test for the disorder, read more at https://www.genengnews.com/topics/omics/schizophrenia-genes-and-loci-identified-through-landmark-studies/

P.S. people often go misdiagnosed for psychological disorders now with a genetic test there will be no doubt who is and isn't schizophenric.(https://www.genome.gov/genetics-glossary/Genetic-Testing)

What an interesting read!
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness in which patients have aberrant perceptions of reality. Schizophrenia can include hallucinations, delusions, and profoundly abnormal thought and behavior, which can make it difficult to operate on a daily basis. Schizophrenia patients need to be treated for the rest of their lives. Early therapy can assist to reduce symptoms and improve the long-term outlook by preventing significant consequences. Schizophrenia is characterized by difficulties with thinking (cognition), acting (behavior), and feeling (emotions). Delusions, hallucinations, or confused speech are common signs and symptoms, and they indicate a reduced capacity to perform.
Deletions or duplications of genetic material on one or more chromosomes, which can influence several genes, are also considered to raise the risk of schizophrenia. A tiny loss (microdeletion) in the 22q11 region of chromosome 22 may be associated in a small percentage of schizophrenia patients.
Schizophrenia runs in families, although no one gene is believed to be to blame. It's more likely that distinct genetic combinations render people more susceptible to the disease. Having these genes, however, does not guarantee that you will develop schizophrenia.
