SaxonViolence Posted May 25, 2022 Report Posted May 25, 2022 Friends, What Philosophy would come closest to agreeing with the statement: "REGRET confirms that you made the Right decision"? I write and I have an obstinate character, in a story in progress, who responds several times to the statement: "You will regret this," with the statement: "I certainly hope so. That will be God's way of telling me that I did the Right Thing." He is just pure Contrarian—but it just occurred to me to wonder if any Philosopher or Philosophy would agree with his thesis. Thanks. Hypnos Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 (edited) You could call it Regretism; it's quite obvious that hedonism has a much diminished role therein. Edited January 10 by Hypnos Quote
SaxonViolence Posted February 14 Author Report Posted February 14 My idea was, that the fact that as the years go on, that you regret your decision, would mean that ONCE you stood against a very formidable temptation and triumphed—though now, weakened with the years, you might no longer have the strength to resist temptation.
