atomsplit Posted October 19, 2022 Report Posted October 19, 2022 Car batteries EV’s made practical I think there is a second solution to the recharging problem. Instead of spending hours recharging your car battery, why not just exchange the battery pack with a recharged one? The current gas service stations could dig up the huge fuel tanks and replace this space with automated racks of charged battery packs. The car drives into a narrow space like today's drive-through car washing stations. I think this would be a simple solution to a huge problem. The turnaround time should be about as long as it took to fill the tank of a conventional car gas tank. (:- Quote

(:- I don't think the exchanging of battery packs would work from what I understand they are quite large and heavy. It would probably cost much more to exchange them then to charge one and wait it out. Link = How Much Does an Electric Car Battery Replacement Cost? Those are valid concerns. First, the battery would be exchanged by mechanical means, not by individuals. It seems you are looking at this from the wrong point of view. You do not replace the battery pack I am talking about; you exchange it. This whole debate will be mute when the fossil fuel industry can no longer produce the needed gasoline to meet public demand. Like I said, you drive over an exchanger, mechanical arms reach up, disconnect the battery pack, remove the pack, and replace it with a recharged one. write4u Posted October 23, 2022 Report Posted October 23, 2022 Moreover the new solar-powered electrical generators and batteries are considerably smaller and as I understand it, there are new types of batteries in the works that may provide excellent power in small packages. I think that heat generation may become a major concern. Quote
