SockCymbal Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Hey guys, I just wrote a brief article describing the nature of gyroscopic motion, precession, etc on my website, and I was wondering if you guys could review it and let me know if I have any errors in my understanding. I know this is a difficult topic, so I would appreciate any feedback! Thanks http://www.thehowandwhy.com/Gyroscopic.html Quote
Qfwfq Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Plenty of good explanations can be found around. It's a rather complicated topic and it's easy to go wrong with it. If you really want to teach others about it, it would be better to first get it straight by following a good physics course. I will say only a couple of things toward improving your pages. First, in the page Gyroscopic3, you use the word force when it should be torque, as in the following page. Second, the equation in that page has L = Iw which isn't always true, this is only correct when the rotation is around a principle axis of inertia. Quote
