Human–animal chimeras: ethical issues about farming chimeric animals bearing human organs

The first ethical issue I see them mention is a straw man, it is based on the idea that only humans have consciousness. Nearly all vertebrates and even some invertebrates are trivially shown to have consciousness. Have you ever had a dog? The idea that we are killing a consciousness creature is null and void in this context.
